Each of our Guatemalan palm hats is more than just a contemporary clothing accessory. It’s also an item of Mayan heritage. Handcrafted from sustainably sourced palm leaves, every hat is crafted with care using techniques passed down over many generations. Our artisan hat makers transform natural materials into lightweight, durable, and stylish creations that stand up to rain and provide excellent protection from the sun. Hatband Accessories
Our cotton hatbands are woven by Guatemalan artisans using traditional hand looms. Each item measures 1.2m in length — perfect for easy tying and adjusting to your preferred style. These wonderful accessories give every hat a unique cultural touch.
Eco-Friendly Artisanal Craftsmanship
Our hats are crafted from palm and are therefore biodegradable. Leaf spears are harvested from sabal mexicana palms, grown in areas of wetland along the Pacific coast of Guatemala. The leaves are dried, bleached and softened using traditional methods. Thin strips of leaf are plaited by hand into a continuous “ribbon”. Starting at the centre of what will be the crown of the hat, the ribbon is then sewn into an overlapping, continuous spiral to form a flat disc. This is then wetted and shaped by hand by pressing it onto a wooden hat block or mould. The hat is then allowed to dry for finishing. The result is a beautiful artisanal product, hand-made and natural. Unlike so many hats available today, ours are not moulded plastic fibre nor are they made of coiled paper that will disintegrate with use or dissolve in a shower of rain!
